This game is probably my first real worker placement game, and I'm quite happy I bought this one. There are different roads leading to temple favor increase and then some other strategies to try and snatch victory. I think its more of a longer term planner/thinkers game. However, the player interaction is really low. Each player will try to play his strategy effecient and most blocking will usually happen on the palenque wheel unless multiple people are trying the same strategy. The low player interaction is what tanks the score of the game for me, as people can and will reguraly leave the table while they wait for other players to complete their moves, after they have done theirs.
So I agree with the assesement of the OP that player interaction is very low, as well as that the game can feel a bit drawn out. I know I lowered my rating after the 5th play, precisely because of lacking player interaction.
(I've played 6 games at time of writing)
