I really don't think you can get a fair assessment of the game's possibilities after one play. I've only played like 4 times now and I wanted to wait a few more before posting my own review. I guess sometimes you just know a game won't click with you, but I'd just point out for those interested that I couldn't disagree more, I thought that this game would be just a gimmick, and found it to be much more than I was expecting.
I think it's entirely possible to get a fair assessment of a game after one play, especially one that doesn't have a lot of depth. This game is not opaque by any means and im typically a decisive person. It is rare that my opinion changes substantially after the first impression with a game- especially one that doesn't appear to have much below the surface. And when it does, I make sure to come back and change my posts to reflect that. I'll be surprised if that happens here.
I'd also point out that some of your positives, and some of your negatives don't really jive. Take for instance the point that there are many points to win, which is true. This inherently gives a game greater replayability because you can try all of the different routes to victory.
A few of your other criticisms could be true of every game. Even take for example Agricola which you rate a 10. Aren't you just doing the same basic turns round after round. I suppose this could be said of every game, but I don't find it to be a fair criticism.
Anyways, there are some of my thoughts, I didn't want to answer each criticism, just point out I feel they appear not very well thought out or valid. Maybe the game didn't work for you, and that's fine, but I'd just like valid criticism about it.
And you started off being so polite and respectful of my opinions...you can count on me being polite and respectful in my comments to your review whenever you write it.
