Well, having already played several games of Tzolkin, I totally disagree with this analisys :
This game has an elegant and very innovative mechanism, which is far from being gimmick, and if it was only for that (as you said), it would be enough to be considered one of the best game outside...
Then I completely disagree with the rest of the analisys, because every element in the game fits perfectly each other and with the mechanism...
But most of all I want to say something about the interaction in this game:
First learn how to play the game, (which is very unlikely to do after only one game where you just get acquainted with the gear timing)... then play with expert players and see if you can ever win a game without carefully pay attention of what other players do... ;)
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to polemize... you might still don't like it, but at least you will know what the game is about... ;)
Its funny, whenever I write first impressions of games that I give a positive review, no one ever accuses me of being ignorant about the game or unable to grasp its concepts after one play. But lo and behold, whenever I have a less than rosy conclusion about a game, i couldn't have possibly understood it after only one play. This criticism is trite and self serving.
Hey... you complain about people not understanding exactly your words... please don't do the same... :)
I didn't say you don't have the right to express your opinion on the game... I just said I don't agree with your opinion.
Second, I just said that after one play you cannot be able to play the game efficiently... I think this is objective. And said that (having played several games) I can tell you that you need to plan a strategy, because if you don't focus on something it's very hard to win the game, and then you MUST take carefully into consideration what other players do if you want to achieve your goals.
Having an opinon on the game is ok, but giving wrong information to people who wonder if they might like it is another thing. And saying this game is not strategic and has no interaction is a wrong information, nomatter what is your taste or judgment on it :)
