What do you mean when you say "placing on the higher steps of the gears right away". Don't you *always* have to start at the lowest spot?


Yes. But if all lower spots are occupied by other workers, then the lowest open spot becomes more expensive (but it obviously is more valuable because of it saves you precious turns).
That fell within his strategy: letting others fill lower spots and leveraging his high amount of corn for affording a sweeter place.
