Uhm. I guess I should write a review explaining how much this game adhere to the mayan theme more then people notice....I just want to say here that I had in my original prototype a name for each building and each technology in the game. it has been a publishing decision to remove all names and pictures to make the game very easy to understand and language independent.
Of course it became more abstract, but it looks very clear.... i accept you don't like it, but made in the other way, other people might have not liked it as well :)
Just a note on Uxmal.... Despite what you think of it, I had a clear image of the market wheel in my mind while designing the game.
Question: who had ever talked about sons in this game? ;)
i think of a farmer going in town for the market, you can stop to the temple to make an offer, going deeply into the market you can make any kind of trade... but if you lose enough time around you can find a woman.... and so increase the population of your tribe, but also buy a slave, or hire an assistant... you play to much agricola... ;)
And thematically speaking, how can you make a son being in a room ALONE???
At least stone age solved this issue... :P
then you wait longer when the most of the people left you can buy for a cheaper price....
there are also many things that cannot be explicit in a game, because they are not politically correct or not good to be explicit... talking about gods, mysticism, and mayan habits.... I let you guess what the last action of Uxmal represents :)
