I think the Skull strategy is VERY effective because it marries to temple advancement so well (which is where large rewards lie).

If you can dominate in two of the three temples and pick up a fair number of skulls, you will be competitive with the other strategies.

You won't dominate any of the temple tracks with skulls if a competent player is running the corn tech/temple strategy. It is very common to be at or very near to the top of all three temples by the 3/4 mark with this method. Typically you score around 20 points at the 1/2 way point and another 35 points at the end. Pick up another 12 to 18 points from a monument and 10 points from placing one skull and that yields 80+ points very consistently.

Certainly I have won using the crystal skull route, but only against weaker opponents. I admit I could be wrong about it and I'll keep trying it out on occasion, but until I win using it against someone else that knows what they are doing, or someone else beats me with it when I'm playing a strong strategy (buildings or corn) I can't agree that it is as good as the other two paths.
