I also think you are wrong. And one piece of evidence is that there's no game component to record that information. Sure in this case it was immediate, but it might not be. While such an argument isn't conclusive, it's strong when there is nothing explicit in the rules (which I haven't checked on this occasion, but believe I have on a past one, and IIRC they don't differentiate).

It's one of those things that good playtesting will catch. If you have a fiddly rule (only once per track) and you don't naturally have some way to record it, then it was probably a bad rule.
