Thanks for taking the time to post a review.

I happen to disagree with most of your conclusions, after only 2 plays (once before buying, once after), but I think the points you've brought up are the key ones that will determine whether someone will like the game or not.

Specifically, if you like high interaction, then this game may feel too solitaire for you (or rather too subtle to want to persist with trying to find it*), and if you like high variability the same. And if you aren't sure, then try before you buy. I also have small concerns about long term replay, but I'm not expecting to hit them for the next dozen or so plays and if that happens it won't make me regret the purchase one bit.

Personally I tend to play the games I enjoy more than the ones I don't so I don't really see how we're ever going to get balanced opinions without the negative(ish) ones being formed after fewer plays. Up-front first opinions are as important a piece of the "will I like this game?" puzzle as an in-depth breakdown to me.

* I usually feel the correct response to "you just need to play it a few more times" is "no, I just need to play something else".

Exactly my opinion. I do not expect Tzolkin to have the same degree of variability as, let us say, Power Grid or Agricola, which are outstanding in this respect. But I do not expect it either to become boring just after a couple of games, because it offers many tactical and strategic decisions to make in each phase of the game.
